She Sneezed, and Two Small Hairy Figures Turned to Look at Her
Two small, hairy figures were playing near the woods behind a Pennsylvania farm when a woman accidentally gave away her position. She had been watching them move around the trees, trying to make sense of their strange appearance.
When she sneezed, both creatures stopped and turned to look directly at her. They stood upright on two legs, had unusually long arms, and made a soft sound that reminded her of a baby cooing. The woman was so frightened that she ran straight into her house.
The following evening, another woman encountered a much taller, hair-covered figure beside a rural road in a neighbouring county. This one was gray and moved in a way she’d never seen before.
Two Figures Near the Trees
The first encounter happened on August 18, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m. on a farm in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. The woman was finishing a chore near one of the farm buildings when she heard a disturbance coming from the nearby woods.
It sounded as though something was being thrown around among the trees. When she stepped outside to investigate, she noticed a small figure crouching behind the trees about 60 feet away. Looking more closely, she realized there was another one beside it.
Both were crouched close to the ground, partially hidden by vegetation. Moments later, they stood up and began running around together, their movements reminding her of two youngsters playing.
She watched for several minutes, getting a good look at the creatures. Both were about three and a half feet tall, walked upright, and were covered in light brown hair.
Their hair was medium-length and straggly, giving them a shaggy appearance. Their faces were darker brown, with round, dark eyes that stood out against the surrounding hair.
Neither seemed to have much of a neck. Their heads appeared to sit directly on their shoulders, and their arms were unusually long and thin.
Plants blocked her view of their legs, but she could clearly see how the two figures moved around each other. They seemed completely occupied with whatever they were doing and hadn’t noticed her watching from nearby.
The Strange Cooing Sound
As the creatures moved around the trees, they made a soft vocalization that sounded like a baby cooing. The woman continued watching, fascinated by the unfamiliar animals and the sounds they were making.
She had never seen anything like them around the farm before. Then, without warning, she sneezed.
Both creatures immediately stopped playing and turned their heads toward her. The sudden attention frightened her, and she hurried back into the farmhouse, calling out to her husband about what she’d just seen.
He hadn’t seen the creatures himself, but something unusual had happened to him earlier that afternoon. At around 4:30 p.m., he’d been walking the family dog near a cornfield when he heard a loud knocking sound coming from the woods.
Three more knocks followed from somewhere near the top of a ridge. He listened for a moment before continuing his walk, unaware of what his wife would encounter a couple of hours later.
Something Was Still Outside
Following the encounter, the family’s dog became frightened of going outdoors. The animal had always been accustomed to the property, but now it was reluctant to leave the house.
The woman later told Pennsylvania researcher Stan Gordon that the dog had been behaving that way for about a week. She also experienced something else that reminded her of the two creatures.
On a Sunday night after the encounter, a strange sound awakened her from sleep. She listened and recognized the same soft cooing she’d heard coming from the figures near the woods.
She couldn’t see anything outside, but hearing the noise again brought back the frightening moment when both creatures had turned to stare at her.
Gordon began gathering details about the encounter. He had spent decades investigating unusual creature sightings across Pennsylvania, including accounts of large, hair-covered figures appearing near farms and wooded areas.
This case stood out because the creatures were much smaller than the towering figures in many Bigfoot stories. And while he was gathering information about the farm encounter, another unusual sighting came to his attention.
Another Creature Appeared the Next Evening
On August 19, 2026, a woman was driving slowly along a rural road in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. It was approximately 8:05 p.m., and there was still enough daylight for her to see the surrounding countryside.
As she drove, she noticed something moving along the hillside to her right. A hair-covered figure was running rapidly uphill toward the road.
The creature moved on two legs and was considerably taller than the pair seen the previous evening. She estimated its height at approximately five feet.
Its body was covered in charcoal-gray hair, and its long arms swung as it ran. The head had a rounded, dome-like shape, with no visible neck separating it from the shoulders.
The woman could make out small, dark eyes and a somewhat flattened nose with wide nostrils. She couldn’t see any ears, but she was close enough to get a good look at the creature’s movements.
It approached the side of the road and came within about 30 feet of her car. She watched it reach the edge of the road, where it suddenly did something she would remember long after the encounter.
The Turn That Looked Mechanical
As the figure reached the ground near the road, it appeared to lose its balance for a moment. It turned around, but the movement was unlike anything the woman had expected.
Instead of twisting its upper body and turning its legs, the creature seemed to rotate its entire body through 180 degrees in one movement. She described the turn as almost mechanical.
Its whole body swung around before it headed back down the hillside. She could clearly make out one hairy leg as the creature changed direction and disappeared from view.
Gordon now had two unusual accounts from neighbouring Pennsylvania counties. The creatures weren’t identical, but both witnesses had encountered upright, hair-covered figures during the early evening.
Pennsylvania’s Smaller Bigfoot Mystery
Gordon interviewed the women shortly after their encounters, adding their experiences to a long collection of unusual Pennsylvania sightings.
Since the late 1960s, he has investigated reports of hair-covered creatures appearing around farms, wooded hillsides, and rural communities throughout the state. Some witnesses have encountered towering figures standing seven or eight feet tall, while others have described much smaller creatures.
The August sightings added two very different descriptions to those accounts. The figures in Indiana County were small, light brown, and made sounds like cooing babies, while the creature in Westmoreland County was taller, charcoal gray, and moved with a strange, almost mechanical turn.
Gordon has also collected accounts of unexplained screams, howls, and knocking sounds coming from wooded areas across Pennsylvania. Many of those communities have histories of unusual encounters stretching back decades.
